Nigeria’s U-19 women’s cricket team, the Junior Female Yellow Greens, will engage Pakistan in a warm-up game today, January 13, as they gear up to make history with their maiden appearance at the Malaysia 2025 ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup. The game is billed for 3:30 pm local time, which is 10:30 pm Nigerian time, and will take place at the YSD-UKM Cricket Oval in Bangi, Malaysia.

Nigeria qualified as Africa’s sole representative after a historic triumph in the African Qualifying Series in Rwanda, defeating teams like Zimbabwe and Uganda. Led by captain Lucky Piety, the 26th-ranked Nigerian team will test their strength against world number eight, Pakistan.

The President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Uyi Akpata, hailed the progress of the team, underlining their intensive training, culminating in a final camp in India. He also expressed appreciation for the support given by the National Sports Commission.

Drawn into Group C, Nigeria will go into battles with Samoa on January 18, New Zealand on January 20, and South Africa on January 22.

This will be Nigeria’s second-ever cricket World Cup, following the qualification of the men’s U-19 in 2019. Junior Female Yellow Greens are determined to leave their mark on the world stage.
