Brilliant displays by Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare in the Belgian Pro League have put Premier League clubs on red alert, with Racing Genk reportedly slapping a €25 million price tag on the striker.
The 24-year-old has been in sensational form leading the league with 13 goals this season. His 18 combined goal contributions bring out the fact that he is one of the standout players in the division.
Arokodare’s emergence has been a big plus for Genk at a time when there were questions over whether he could be consistent for them following in the footsteps of Paul Onuachu. However, opinions about his readiness for the Premier League remain divided.
Former Belgian defender Olivier Deschacht has questioned Arokodare’s value in England, saying, “Will anyone pay €20 million for Tolu? Maybe, but I doubt it. I rate Onuachu higher, and even he struggled in the Premier League.”
Deschacht used the tough spell of Onuachu at Southampton, where the striker has not scored in 24 appearances, as a warning for Arokodare.
Despite this, Gerk’s eagerness to keep their top scorer until the end of the season, the chance to move to the Premier League continues to hang over Arokodare’s future.
