Players of Osun Utd Football Club trickled back into the training ground this afternoon following the festive break, the stadium, though quiet with activity save for the echoes of footsteps as players immediately erase every elements of remnants of the holiday spirit.
Head Coach Seye Ajayi who monitored the training, watched his squad assembled and stretched from close range. He wasn’t one to enjoy holiday cheer, his mind is always focused on the program, with the new year upon us, it is time to get serious.
“Alright, I welcome you all,” he began, his voice firm yet calm. “We’ve had our time off, and I hope you’ve all enjoyed the short break. But now, it’s back to work.”
He paused a little, letting the weight of his words sink in.
“I know the holidays bring distractions. Family, friends, parties, celebrations of all sorts. But those distractions are over. The real work begins now. We have goals to hit, games to win, and no time to waste. I don’t want to see any more excuses or lack of focus.”
The players exchanged looks, with an understanding nod. They had heard this tone from the coach before, but this time, it felt more urgent. They knew the stakes were high.
Coach Ajayi continued, his eyes sharp. “We’ve got a tough stretch of matches ahead, and every minute we waste could cost us. You’ve all worked hard to get to where you are, but if you’re not fully focused, that’s where we’ll fall short. The technical crew are not autocratic with our set up, whoever proves himself in training would be selected for matchday.”
“From now on, I expect nothing but 100% commitment. It’s not just about physical work,” he said, softening his tone slightly. “It’s about being mentally sharp too. Focus on the details on the game, on your training, on each other. Let nothing else distract you from our mission.” He concluded.
Ajayi gave a curt nod, signaling the start of their first session back. As the players broke into their drills, the quick sharp shouts of teammates filled the once quiet air as the drilling lasted in excitements.
According to the schedule, Osun Utd will host Abakaliki FC in one of the Matchday Four (4) crucial encounters at Lanreleke Sports Complex Ileogbo on Saturday, January 4th 2025. “Imole Gladiators’ still second on the log with four points after three matches.
