Week 10; Star Referees, Assistants On Parade

Part of the highlights of the Week 10 matches of the NPFL is the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF Referees’ Committee appointment of match officials who may be branded “Star Referees and Assistants”
Years ago, in the family of Nigeria Football Referees’ Association, NFRA, there were special categories of referees and assistants called “Star Referees.
According to what Nigeria Whistlers gathered, those Star referees of that era were of exceptional class who showed excessive Refereeing prowess. Some of them were men and women of proven integrity and whistling expertise, hence they were categorized as Star Referees.
In week 10 of the NPFL, the appointment available to Nigeria Whistlers shows presence of modern day star referees among the match officials.
With their presence in all the centres, teams and spectators should be assured of heartwarming officiating.
In the Tornadoes vs Shooting Stars game in Minna, Bashir Liman, one of the star referees of our time will be in charge assisted by two Kano Assistant Referees that are well known in the art of flagging; Yusuf Abdulahi and Sanusi Umar Idris.
Apart from being an international referee, one referee who got his fifa badge as a star referee is Patrick Egba. Egba will be in Umuahia for the Abia Warriors vs Heartland FC game. Fifa Egba has two other knowledgeable Assistant Referees; Effiong Oboho and Emma Ogar on the lines.
Remarkably, an Army Officer, Gen Olawale Fawole, also a Beach Soccer Fifa Referee will drop his military regalia in Kaduna base for refereeing kits in Uyo when home side, Akwa United hosts Kwara United. Two very strong and agile assistants referees from Imo State; Barr Ifeanyi Ibemere and Chidiebere Philips will provide the necessary cooperation from the boundary lines.
Two young ladies are also among the stars of the whistle expected to be fair and firm on the field this weekend. While Fifa Yemisi Akintoye of Lagos accompanied by another Fifa male Assistant Referee, Usman Olaide Abdulmajeed of Oyo will be in Yenagoa for the Bayelsa United vs Enyimba clash, FCT’s Abdulganiyat Rashidat will receive support from her council secretary, Peter Bwamba and Osunde Idowu of Taraba for the Kano Pillars vs Plateau United.
