Khalil Nurudeen scored a brace to secure maximum points for Sunshine Stars U-19 in a 2-0 win over Bayelsa United at Adeyemi Federal University of Education Sports Complex in Ondo.
The first half proved tactical as Bayelsa United’s hard stance made it difficult for the home team to find the back of the net.
The sports complex however came alive in the 47th minute when substitute Yakubu Shuaibu supplied a lone range pass to Khalil Nurudeen who scored for Sunshine Stars.
Bayelsa United player, Wisdom was expelled in the 56th minute for serious misconduct.
Nurudeen doubled the tally through a long throw-in from Taiwo Ogunleye as he headed past the goal keeper.
Reflecting on the tie, Sunshine Stars head coach, Olarenwaju Ale said, “We tried to study them in the first half as Bayelsa U-19 boys became hard in their approach. That was why we switched to the wings to seek goals.”
Head Coach of Bayelsa United, Dimie Indieidie asserted, “I want to commend my boys. Generally it is a developmental league where we look forward to seeing the young lads fit in to their first team.”
Sunshine Stars U-19 top the N-Youth Southern Conference table with 9 points with their next game against Shuffle Select of Lagos in Ikenne, Ogun state.
