The pursuit of continental glory begins this weekend as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) kicks off the highly anticipated 2024/25 CAF Interclub season.

The competition will start with the Preliminary Rounds of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

The First Preliminary Round First Leg matches are scheduled to take place between August 16 and 18, with the return legs set for August 23 to 25, 2024.

The Second Preliminary Round will follow, with first-leg matches from September 13 to 15, and the return legs to finalize the Group Stage draw from September 20 to 22, 2024.

Top clubs such as Al Ahly SC (Egypt), Esperance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia), and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) have been exempted from the First Preliminary Round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League due to their high rankings. Similarly, 12 top-ranked clubs, including Zamalek SC, the current holders of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, are also exempt from the opening round.

Although these are just the early stages of the competition, African football fans can expect thrilling matchups as clubs from across the continent battle to advance to the second round and eventually secure a spot in the Group Stages of their respective tournaments.

Notable fixtures in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League include reigning Tanzanian champions Young Africans visiting Vital’O FC of Burundi. Egypt’s Pyramids FC, who had an impressive run last season, will face JKU SC of Zanzibar, while former champions Orlando Pirates FC will take on Disciples FC of Madagascar.

In the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, Zambia’s Zesco United is set to clash with Zimbabwe’s Dynamos FC in what promises to be an action-packed encounter. Morocco’s UTS will host RS Abidjan of Côte d’Ivoire, while Ghana’s Nsoatreman FC welcomes TP Elect Sport from the Republic of Chad.
