Rivers United began their journey in the Governor Douye Diri Preseason Football Cup 2024 with a 0-0 stalemate against Kwara United at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Monday.
The Pride of Rivers had their moments in the game, but Kwara United’s goalkeeper proved to be the hero with a crucial save just before half-time, denying Timothy Zachariah the match winner.
Despite the draw, Rivers United’s Technical Manager, Finidi George, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating that it’s “work in progress.” He praised the players’ response to training and assured that areas needing correction will be addressed before the start of the new season.
The team will face a stiff test in their next game, as they take on current Group B leaders Bendel Insurance on Wednesday at 4:30 pm. The Benin Arsenal secured a 1-0 win over Krusaders Feeders FC in their opening match, making the upcoming encounter a crucial one for both teams qualification hopes.
