FC ONE Rocket are through to a second successive Akwa Ibom State FA Cup final after a 2-0 triumph over Dakkada FC at the Uyo Township Stadium on Tuesday.
Mendos Rickson shot the Indomitables ahead in the 39th minute, before Festus Johnson sealed the win with an exquisite header in the 85th minute.
FC ONE Rocket started brightly, dictating the game’s rhythm and came close early, but Festus Johnson saw his effort rattle the cross bar after Onotu Emmanuel’s shot was parried towards his direction.
Ikenna Charles also tested Dakkada shot stopper, Christian with a distant free kick, but the goalkeeper was equal to the task and kept it out.
The breakthrough came through Mendos Rickson, who made his way into the box and expertly turned in Onotu Emmanuel’s delicious cross for the first goal in the 39th minute.
Unsatisfied, the Indomitables restarted the game with the same momentum in the second half and got a deserved second when Columba Augustine pressured the Dakkada backline and drove the goalkeeper off his line to find Festus Johnson, who brilliantly headed into an empty net in the 85th minute to end Dakkada’s hopes of a comeback.
The Chosen Ones had their moments, but Lordful Philip and the entire FC ONE Rocket backline of Bidemi Obodu, Goforth Amedu, Solomon Yebei and Regan Igwebuike were equal to the task and not even veteran midfielder, Aniekan Ekpe could break them down.
FC ONE Rocket have booked a place in the Federation Cup and will face the winner of tomorrow’s tie between Akwa United and Vandrezzer FC in the Akwa Ibom State FA Cup final.
Ndubisi Ndah’s men reached the final last year – losing 4-1 to Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium and went on to feature in the Federation Cup’s round of 64 – where they lost on penalties to Lobi Stars after a pulsating 2-2 draw at the Awka City Stadium.
