Tobi Amusan played a pivotal role in guiding Team Nigeria to gold in the women’s 4×100-meter relay on day three of athletics at the ongoing 13th African Games.
Affectionately known as the “Tobi Express,” Amusan demonstrated her remarkable athleticism by anchoring the relay leg just an hour after securing her third successive African Games gold medal in the women’s 100-meter hurdles.
Teaming up with Justina Tiana Eyakpobeyan, Olayinka Olajide, and Abinusawa Forehand, Amusan propelled the quartet to victory, crossing the finish line in a swift time of 43.05 seconds.
This triumph saw the West African nation successfully defend their crown from five years ago in Rabat, Morocco.
In the second place, Liberia’s team, comprising Morrison Ebony Leea, Smith-Barnett Destiny Alexis, McCoy Maia Alyse, and Collins Shania Kyree Josephine, clocked a time of 44.02 seconds.
Meanwhile, Team Ghana secured a respectable third place, clinching the bronze medal ahead of South Africa.
The Ghanaian squad, consisting of Mary Boakye, Janet Mensah, Doris Mensah, and Hor Halutie, showcased impressive teamwork to secure their spot on the podium.
Nigeria bags men’s 4x100m relay
In a repeat of their victory in the women’s event, Team Nigeria once again triumphed over Ghana at the 13th African Games.
This time, it was in the thrilling men’s 4×100-meter relay event, where they clinched gold with a nail-biting microsecond lead over their West African rivals in Accra
The Nigerian quartet, comprising Sunday Israel Okon, Ekanem Consider, Akintola Alaba Olukunle, and Itsekiri Usheoritse, avenged their defeat from five years ago in Rabat, Morocco with a stellar performance.
With a swift time of 38.41 seconds, Nigeria demonstrated impeccable baton exchanges, from the third to the anchor leg, expertly handled by Usheoritse.
