Nigeria’s Super Falcons clinched their place in the final round of the 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers, edging past the Cameroonian Indomitable Lionesses 1-0 on Monday. This hard-fought victory secured a 1-0 aggregate win for Randy Waldrum’s team.

The Falcons dominated the early stages, taking the lead through Esther Okoronkwo in the 14th minute. Okoronkwo, surprisingly starting over Asisat Oshoala, capitalized on a goalmouth scramble to put the hosts ahead.

Nigeria continued to press, with Juventus midfielder Jennifer Echegini nearly doubling their lead after the hour mark. Okoronkwo also had a golden opportunity but skied her shot over the bar just before halftime.

Despite sustained pressure, the score remained unchanged in the second half. Cameroon’s frustration boiled over as Enganemben Annie received a red card for unsporting conduct late in stoppage time.

The Super Falcons now await the winner of the other semi-final clash between South Africa and Tanzania, with South Africa holding a commanding 3-0 advantage. This victory marks a significant step towards the Falcons securing their participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
